Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) and Electromyography (EMG)

NCS are electrical tests of nerves and are used with EMG which test muscle electrical activity.   These tests help neurologists evaluate some nervous system symptoms such as numbness and weakness.   Nerve damage caused by diabetes is studied in this way, as are muscle diseases such as muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis and the muscle wasting disease known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
